A Culture that Celebrates Safety
Our founder, Mr. Hunt, started as a driver and that’s why we always say we were built by a driver for drivers. Our Million Mile celebration helps promote our safety culture by recognizing drivers for maintaining nothing short of an excellent safety record while on the road.
Our annual Million Mile celebration brings our 2, 3, 4 and 5 million mile safe drivers to the corporate campus for a 3-day event to show how much their dedication to safety means to us as a company and to their families. Being safe on the road means more than just avoiding preventable accidents – it also means being reliable for our customers.
For John, a Dedicated Contract Services driver who was recently celebrated for driving two million safe miles, it’s all about customer service and relationships, “I’ve run a dedicated route, the same route for years. You get to know the people on a more human level…You spend a few minutes with them, talking, asking how they’re family is and they’ll ask about yours…It just makes it easier in the long run because you know each other, you know what’s going on and how not to act or react…it makes my day better knowing I made his day.”
Dedicated Logistics and Safety Tech You Can Rely On
New developments within transportation safety technology arise more frequently than you may expect, and J.B. Hunt Dedicated is always actively working to stay on top of them. To aid our drivers and promote safe driving at all times, here are just a few of the safety measure’s our company-owned vehicles are equipped with:

“We weren’t giving [drivers] the attention from a safety perspective that we should, given their interaction with the traveling public. So it just makes sense to outsource to somebody who does.”
– Director of Transportation and Logistics of a building materials manufacturer
Nuclear verdicts and litigation awards have been on the uptick, and as litigation awards increase, so does the strain on insurance companies and their premiums. Larger fleets may not suffer as much from the steep premium increases that smaller fleets have experienced, but they are certainly not immune to the ripple effects of these higher rates.
This is why taking steps to make sure your fleet is protected is important. Investing in safety technology is an active way to protect your fleet, but it’s important to build an employee culture that prioritizes safety. Setting clearly defined safety standards that employees can adhere to, and continuing to educate them on the best practices help keep everyone focused on safety.
Setting the Bar for Safety Standards
J.B. Hunt Dedicated works hard to provide the best in fleet management and supply chain solutions by employing professional drivers that exceed expectations in safety and performance. We utilize a hair-follicle drug screening for new driver hires before allowing them on the road. Every J.B. Hunt Dedicated driver goes through the training required by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) along with additional customer-specific training.
Some of that specific training requires drivers to complete the Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP) certification training to U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) guidelines and the safety training required by the Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA). We understand the importance of bio-security protocols and the best practices surrounding them so we make sure our company drivers do too. We maintain the following certifications related to the transport of food products to make sure your goods arrive safely:
- Certified Cold Carrier through Global Cold Chain Alliance
- Poultry Handling and Transportation (PHT) certification from U.S. Poultry & Egg Association
- Transport Quality Assurance (TQA) certification from Pork Checkoff
Our safety standards don’t end with finding and training the best drivers. Oftentimes, we’re told by customers and drivers themselves that they feel supported and seen working with a true transportation provider.
