Safety is a big part of our culture at J.B. Hunt. In 2024, we set a new safety record as a company by reducing DOT preventable collisions by almost 3% and this was the second year in a row that we set a new annual record!

Why are we so focused on safety? It’s because we’re Driven for You™. Our first priority is keeping our people and other vehicles on the road safe. And our attention to safety helps us provide best-in-class service to you, our customers.

Celebrating Millions of Safe Miles

Every year, J.B. Hunt goes all out to celebrate our drivers who have driven two, three, four and even five million safe miles. Our people line the hallways of our corporate office cheering for our million-mile drivers and their families as they make their way down our Walk of Fame. It’s just one of the ways we thank our drivers for championing our safety culture.  

Even some of our customers sent congratulations to our million-mile drivers.

This year, John was one of those drivers being honored for achieving two million safe miles. As a Dedicated Contract Services® driver, John says he gets an opportunity to build relationships with his customers, which helps him to deliver excellent customer service.

James celebrated three million safe miles during this year's Million Mile event. James has been with J.B. Hunt for 36 years – his entire driving career. James said he takes the time to find ways to provide extra value to customers, whether that’s helping them unload trailers or slowing down to make sure he’s doing the job as safely as possible.

Jimmy, a Dedicated Contract Services driver who has been with J.B. Hunt for nearly 30 years, celebrated two million miles. Jimmy says his job is all about the details. Paying attention to the small things like getting enough rest and getting out to look before backing up is how he stays safe on the road. It’s that attention to detail that’s helped him deliver best-in-class service to one of our customers for 12 years.

Gilberto, J.B. Hunt Final Mile Services® driver celebrated two million miles this year. As a final mile driver, Gilberto makes deliveries to customer homes, which can be tricky. He said he only makes stops where he knows it is safe. If his truck won't fit, he contacts the customer to find an alternative plan. By doing this, Gilberto not only champions our safety culture, but also provides excellent customer service.

Our investment in safety helps keep the road safe, but it also helps you, our customer. We are committed to implementing the newest available safety technologies in our fleet to amplify our safety impact for both our drivers and the motoring public. This allows us to protect your freight and get it to its destination. Here are some of the investments we’ve made in safety:

  • Activated inward facing cameras across our entire fleet
  • Equipped our trailers with right-side assist technologies
  • Provided safety training for drivers, including account-specific training tailored to the customer
  • Adopted a strict screening process for Final Mile Services drivers who go into customer homes to make deliveries
  • Created a dedicated cargo security team who help monitor freight 24/7
