J.B. Hunt Million Mile Celebration
One of our favorite days of the year at J.B. Hunt is when we celebrate our drivers who have driven two, three, four and even five million safe miles during our Million Mile celebration. On average, it takes 7-10 years for a driver to reach one million safe miles. It’s an incredible achievement and a testament to J.B. Hunt’s safety culture.
The size of our celebration matches the magnitude of the drivers’ achievements. Drivers and their families come to our corporate headquarters in Lowell, Arkansas, for three days of festivities including an awards ceremony, dinner party and a visit to the Million Mile Wall of Fame, where the name of every J.B. Hunt million-mile driver is etched forever. The cornerstone event is the Walk of Fame.
During the Walk of Fame, we roll out the red carpet for drivers and their families and guide them through our corporate offices. The halls are lined with our people cheering and celebrating the drivers for all they have done for J.B. Hunt.
J.B. Hunt held its first Million Mile Celebration in 2001, and it was the first of its kind in the industry. Since then, we have honored more than 4,000 drivers and awarded more than $38 million in Million Mile bonuses.
Truck Driver Appreciation Month
National Truck Driver Appreciation Week occurs every year in September. Although J.B. Hunt has driver appreciation programs and events throughout the year, we never turn down an opportunity to celebrate drivers. But one week is not a big enough celebration for us. Instead, we celebrate the entire month.
As one of the largest transportation companies in the U.S., we have thousands of employees stationed across the nation. Throughout September, J.B. Hunt holds hundreds of driver appreciation events all over the country. That way all our people and the drivers’ families can more easily join in the fun. These events include BBQs, gifts, prizes and even trips to amusement parks.
J.B. Hunt Scholarship for Families
Another way we show our appreciation is by offering a way to help our people support and care for their families through the J.B. Hunt Scholarship for Families program. The scholarship program, founded in 2022, provides $2,500 in financial aid each school year for dependent children and grandchildren of J.B. Hunt employees and is renewable for up to four years.
“From drivers at the yard in Santa Fe Springs, to the managers in South Gate, to the Pico Rivera security guards, J.B. Hunt has watched me grow into the young woman I am today,” said Litzy, a recipient from Baldwin Park, California. “Through this scholarship, I will be able to pay for my ELAC balance, putting myself one step closer to the completion of my career. It will put me closer to saying, ‘I am a lawyer, daughter of a J.B. Hunt truck driver who supported me every step of the way.’”
Since launching the program, J.B. Hunt has awarded over $1.2 million in educational financial assistance through the program.
Truck Driving Championship
Driving the trucks and the specialized equipment our drivers do takes skill and hours of training. Every year, some of our most talented drivers show off their skills in the Arkansas Truck Driving Championship.
Before the competition, drivers come to our corporate headquarters for a week of training and practice. They spend this time honing the skills they’ve developed while driving thousands of miles – and in some cases, millions of miles – throughout their careers.
At the competition, our people are on the sidelines cheering drivers on during each event.
Winners at the state level advance to the national competition and have the opportunity to be named a national champion.
