J.B. Hunt Earns 2018 Smartway Excellence Award from EPA
J.B. Hunt Transport Services, Inc. (NASDAQ: JBHT), one of the largest supply chain solutions providers in North America, announced today it has received the SmartWay® Excellence Award from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency for the ninth consecutive year.

J.B. Hunt and 39 other 2018 SmartWay recipients were presented with their awards at the American Trucking Associations Management Conference & Exhibition on October 29. They were selected among the 3,700 organizations participating in the SmartWay program, which helps companies advance supply chain sustainability by measuring, benchmarking, and improving freight transportation efficiency.
“Today, EPA is honoring top-performing SmartWay Carrier Partners with this year’s 2018 SmartWay Excellence Award for their leadership in moving more goods with less fuel,” said EPA’s Assistant Administrator of the Office of Air and Radiation, Bill Wehrum. “These companies inspire others in the freight sector to invest in innovative technologies and business practices that save fuel, while reducing costs and protecting the environment.”

Hunt prevented nearly 3.4 million tons of carbon dioxide from entering the atmosphere through intermodal conversion, which is equivalent to removing over 700,000 passenger vehicles off the road for a year.
Additional sustainability initiatives at J.B. Hunt include reducing engine idle time, governing top speed limits, engineering fleet routes that maximize efficiency, and using biodiesel fuels when possible. The company was one of the first in the world to commit to reserving multiple Tesla Semi electric tractors last year.
