It can be difficult to decide which apps to download to your device. Especially for truck drivers, finding the right app can be very helpful to your job. Apps range from those that offer reviews and services of truck stops to radar apps that alert truckers to bad weather along their routes. These apps and all those in between can help you arrive on time and make the best out of your rest time.

1. Skype

Sometimes texting and calling just doesn’t cut it. Video chat is a great alternative for connecting with friends and family while you’re on the road. Skype is available on Android™ and Apple® platforms so no matter what device you use you’ll be able to stay in contact from almost anywhere.

2. Truck Stops & Travel Plazas by AllStays

Highly rated by drivers, this app provides a suite of data, including truck stops and parking, weigh station locations, weather and alerts, and even details on a state’s driver-related laws. This app does have a fee, but from the reviews it seems the small price is well worth it.

3. Fuelbook

This app gathers details about fuel prices and discounts, truck stop services and amenities, and parking availability. Additionally, it updates drivers with important news and alerts based on their location. According to the developer’s app page, the creators “…wanted to build a best in class tool to help the professional driver succeed.”

4. MyRadar

One of the top-rated weather apps across the board, MyRadar is a great choice for tracking weather in real time. The simple interface provides an instant look at the weather in your area, as well as severe storm alerts, hurricane tracking, forecasts and more. With the paid version of this app, you can even track wind strength.

5. Calorie Counter by MyFitnessPal

This popular app is easy for on-the-go users. Features include an extensive barcode scanner, progress analytics, recipes, reminders and much more. Track your most important metrics and connect with users who can help motivate you to stay fit and make good food choices. The app syncs with a number of fitness apps and devices so you can keep better track of all your moves.

6. CoPilot Truck GPS

CoPilot provides routes safe for truck travel as well as frequently updated offline navigation so you don’t use up your mobile data. You can create personal routing profiles that include your truck’s metrics and hazmat class. Plus, users can opt in to receive speed limit notifications. The app links with Drivwyze for those who utilize the weigh station app.
