Rail Gate Restrictions Disrupt Intermodal Service
The rail network continues to work through ongoing ramp congestion, labor challenges and car imbalances. As a result of progress in Pennsylvania, NS has now lifted all gate restrictions to its Harrisburg ramp. Unfortunately, BNSF has suffered a setback at its Los Angeles/Hobart ramp. On Monday, June 14, a non-intermodal train derailed in Marmon, NM blocking both main tracks. Although both main lines have been returned to service, this interruption further complicated labor and car challenges in Los Angeles. Below is a summary of current rail gate restrictions impacting J.B. Hunt and its customers. These restrictions are expected to limit J.B. Hunt’s ability to pick up shipments through at least Tuesday, June 22.
All Standard traffic will be impacted in these lanes:
- BNSF Los Angeles/Hobart, CA to all destinations
Considering the ongoing rail velocity slowdown and customer unloading challenges, J.B. Hunt expects container availability will remain extremely constrained throughout the country. Customers can help improve container availability by accepting deliveries within 24 hours of deramp and unloading dropped containers within 24 hours of arrival. With a vast network of service offerings, J.B. Hunt can provide highway solutions to mitigate these intermodal disruptions. A representative will communicate load specific delays, along with alternative routing options.
J.B. Hunt will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates as they become available. Customer service is extremely important to J.B. Hunt, and we apologize for the inconvenience these service interruptions have caused.
