Fuel Savings & Cost-Cutting Advantages

Our discount programs are often cited as one of the top reasons owner-operators lease with J.B. Hunt. No one buys fuel at a more competitive price than J.B. Hunt, and we pass the savings directly to you, our partner. Our owner-operators pay substantially less for their fuel — 10% to 20% off pump prices by fueling within our network. And we front your fuel costs, helping you get off to a strong financial start and curtailing the cycle of advances you may have become reliant on in the past. We urge you to keep your cash, fuel with us, and have your fuel costs deducted each week from your settlement.

J.B. Hunt's Independent Contractor Group will also ease your financial burden through substantial savings on maintenance services, truck parts and tires. These savings add up to an estimated $7,000 per year, or almost 8 cpm in revenue, just by reducing your operating expense. Additionally, we can connect you with voluntary health programs at affordable group rates so you and your family may have medical, dental, vision, prescription and other optional coverage. You can take advantage of these programs, offered through USNow, immediately and J.B. Hunt will deduct your premiums weekly.

Weekly Statements

How and when your revenues are disbursed can substantially impact your cash flow and your bottom line. That's why J.B. Hunt offers weekly settlements, paid on the honor system. You won't have to hustle to get your bills turned in before you get your money. You'll receive your funds each and every Friday, for all freight unloaded before midnight Monday. You may select direct deposit or Comdata. Fuel, withholdings and voluntary health premiums will all be deducted.

Independent Contractor Orientation

Orientation is held weekly and generally lasts four days. You'll receive $75 per day (per truck) for completing orientation, plus a cpm rate for bobtailing from home to our terminal, paid on your first settlement. To help bridge the gap until your first settlement, we can issue an advance of up to $100 following orientation. J.B. Hunt also provides lodging and lunch each day of class. At orientation, you can expect to complete a DOT physical and drug screen, a road driving test, truck inspection, all leasing paperwork, plus a briefing of J.B. Hunt's company policies, communication protocol and safety standards. Orientation for truck owners is held weekly at the following Service Centers:

Atlanta, GA
Dallas, TX
Louisville, KY

As a reminder, you'll be dispatched following orientation, so we ask that you bring the following items:

  • Valid Class A CDL issued by your state of residence
  • Copy of truck title or title application (front & back) with your name listed
  • Current 2290, paid
  • Bill of sale or document showing date of sale and total purchase price
  • Current DOT medical card (a new physical will be provided by J.B. Hunt)
  • Voided check or bank-issued document with account/routing numbers (for direct deposit)
  • Bracket for exterior mounting of satellite unit (may be purchased from dealer)
  • Social security numbers and birth dates for dependents covered by health programs
  • Personal items and money for meals/personal expenses until first settlement
