Electronic Data Interchange (EDI)
The benefits and methods of exchanging data electronically
We hope that the following information will be helpful in implementing an EDI partnership with J.B. Hunt.
EDI & Communication
Simply stated, EDI (Electronic Data Interchange) is the electronic exchange of business documents between partners. J B Hunt has been an active participant since 1986.
EDI is comprised of two components: translation and communication. The data process is currently used to update load information, order acceptance, and information critical to our success with you as a carrier partner.
There are various EDI standards (or formats) that a company may use. J B Hunt currently supports ANSI X12 (American National Standards Institution Standards). The current version we exchange with our carriers is X12 V4010.
There are several methods of EDI communications available, but the preferred method by J B Hunt is AS2. We also support FTP and use of VAN (Value Added Network).
JB Hunt supports the following EDI transactions;
- 204 (Load Tender)
- 990 (Acknowledgement)
- 214 (Shipment Status)
- 210 (Invoice)
- 997 (210 acknowledgement)
These transactions are available for LTL and Dray carriers.
